Nhi Nguyen

Nhi Nguyen is a first-generation Vietnamese-American multi-media artist currently based in Kutztown. By using her cultural background as a resource, she presents the themes of important Vietnamese food, traditions, and the casual racism that she encountered as an Asian minority through realistic drawings and paintings. By using vibrant color and texture-studies, Nguyen expresses what holds weight in her heart and mind. She uses realism to dive into a shareable experience that others can experience and understand with her. Her skills were recognized at LCCC’s 2024 Arts and Scholars Exhibition with “Black on Black on Black”, a charcoal drawing of a highly rendered still life, that won first place in the Best of Drawing category. “Bundled”, a colored charcoal pencil drawing of a spiraling pile of clothing, won third place in Most Creative Use of Medium. In 2025, she was included in Midnight Gallery’s Lykke & Hygge exhibition with “Pho”, a colored pastel pencil drawing of a bowl of pho, with other artworks that portrayed a warm and inviting atmosphere. Nguyen continues to create an immersive world of Vietnamese cuisine through art.

The moniker “sunnhirays” came from the combination of her nickname, “Sunshine,” and her name—Nhi (Nee).
